Ostrów Tumski and neighbouring island constitute the location, where the contemporary times meet with the past. It is here that amongst the trees and backwaters, almost a thousand years ago a city had began. It is here that thanks to fords between the islands diving the current of the Oder river, it had been the easiest onto the other Side of the wide river. It is also here that the prince had settled his team in order for it to guard the border of the state as well as the safety of merchants travelling along the Amber road from the Baltic sea to Italy.
